Notice is hereby given, that in accordance with Civil Code §5115(b), “An association shall provide general notice of all of the following at least 30 days before the ballots are distributed: (1) The date and time by which, and the physical address where ballots are to be returned by mail or handed to the inspector or inspectors of elections. (2) The date, time, and location of the meeting at which ballots will be counted. (3) The list of all candidates’ names that will appear on the ballot…”
The candidates listed below will appear on the ballot to fill five seats on the United Board of Directors. Four terms end at the 2024 annual election; one term ends at the 2022 annual election.
Candidates may each in turn select their term of preference (2022 or 2024) according to the greatest to least number of votes received. For example, candidate Joe Smith, who received the greatest number of votes at 2,300, may select his preferred term first; Jane Smith, who received the second-highest number of votes at 1,700, selects her preferred term next, and so on, until all positions/terms are filled:
New board directors will be seated at the annual meeting on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at 9:30 a.m. at the principal offices of the corporation: Community Center at 24351 El Toro Road, Laguna Woods, CA 92637.
The ballots will be mailed on Monday, August 30, 2021, and must be returned to the UniLect inspector of elections by mail on Thursday, September 30, 2021, at 11 a.m. Residents may drop off their ballot in the ballot box located in Community Center Lobby until Thursday, September 30, 2021, at 5 p.m. Ballots will be counted at a special United Board of Directors tabulation meeting on Friday, October 1, 2021, at 9:30 a.m. in the Community Center board room at 24351 El Toro Road.
If you do not receive your ballot by Monday, September 6, 2021, or if your ballot is lost or damaged, call the UniLect Inspector of Elections duplicate request call center at 1-866-466-6455, which is available 24/7 throughout the balloting period.
For any other questions regarding the election, call Inspector of Elections Catherine Burkhart at 1-888-864-5328 (1-888-UniLect). According to State HOA election regulations, only one ballot may be mailed per household/manor. Voting instructions will be included in the ballot package members will receive via mail.

United Laguna Woods Mutual is a non-profit cooperative housing corporation which owns and manages all real property within the original 21 cooperative mutuals. In a cooperative, residents are members of a corporation which owns all real property, including the dwelling units, carports, and laundry facilities within the mutual's boundaries, and each member is entitled to occupy a specific dwelling unit under the terms of an occupancy agreement. Members are governed by an elected board of directors. As corporate members, each resident enters an occupancy agreement to pay a share of the property taxes, maintenance, and other operating expenses.
A board of directors, elected by its members, governs affairs of the cooperative mutual.

Board Meeting: The United Board meets the second Tuesday of each month at 9:30 a.m. in the Board Room. A committee meeting schedule can be found here.
Election: Annually, in October, the Board of Directors is elected to serve staggered three-year terms.

The Finance Committee oversees the finances and fees related to United Mutual. The committee meets bi-monthly on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 9:30am in the Administration Bldg. Board Room and again on the 4th Tuesday at 2:00pm in the Sycamore room. Refer to the online Board Calendar for specific meeting dates & times.
The Energy Committee oversees all electrical and environmental issues related to the United Laguna Woods Mutual community. The committee meets the 1st Friday of each month at 9:30am in the Administration Building in the Cypress Room. Refer to the online Board Calendar for specific meeting dates & times.
The Maintenance & Construction Committee oversees the upkeep of all buildings located in the United Laguna Woods Mutual community. The committee meets the 4th Wednesday of each month at 9:00am in the Administration Building in the Board Room. Refer to the online Board Calendar for specific meeting dates & times.
The Architectural Control Committee ensures that United Laguna Woods Mutual's buildings are up to code and remain aesthetically pleasing. The committee meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 9:30am in the Administration Building in the Sycamore Room. Refer to the online Board Calendar for specific meeting dates & times.
The Landscape Committee oversees all landscaping matters related to the United Laguna Woods Mutual community. The committee meets the 2nd Thursday of each month at 9 a.m. in the Administration Building in the Board Room. Refer to the online Board Calendar for specific meeting dates & times.
Serves as a liaison between the United Laguna Woods Mutual (“United”) Board and the Members of United. The committee also answers questions and promotes communications of Board-approved policies and information to United Members.
