Village Catalytic Converter Thief Foiled
On November 18, 2020, the Laguna Woods Village Security Department was advised of catalytic converters stolen from three Village Management Services vehicles parked in the maintenance shop. Personnel located a saw with blood on its surface on a nearby embankment outside of the shop, but it was unknown at that time whether the saw was related to the thefts. However, security cameras captured footage of a vehicle and a suspicious individual in the area hours before the theft. On May 19, 2021, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department announced positive identification of the subject via DNA analysis of the blood on the saw. They were able to connect the subject to the catalytic converter thefts via the Village security camera video footage. Thanks to this video footage, chances of successfully prosecuting this individual are greatly increased.
