Recreation Masking Requirements Update
The Recreation and Special Events Department would like to share important updates to its conditional reopening documents regarding the wearing of face coverings.
All updates are based on State Blueprint Guidance for the Use of Face Coverings (https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/Pages/COVID-19/guidance-for-face-coverings.aspx) issued by the California Department of Public Health on November 16, 2020, and referenced in the stay-at-home order issued by Governor Newsom on December 3, 2020.
The updates are effective Monday, December 14.
Updates to the documents:
- Golf: Masks must be worn at all times on the putting green and must be worn until teeing off on the course and when finishing play.
- Racket sports (tennis, paddle tennis and pickleball): During singles play, participants do not have to wear a mask while playing; during doubles play, masks are required while playing.
- Lawn bowling and bocce: Masks must be worn at all times.
- Fitness class and outdoor gym participants must wear a mask or face covering when entering/exiting the facilities, and have a face covering with them at all times. Further, participants are spaced 10 feet apart—not 6 feet as recommended.
These requirements are in compliance with the California Department of Public Health and are in compliance with the current State of California mandate. Residents who choose not to follow these guidelines do so at their own risk and the risk to others.
