May 8 Meeting Topic:  Immigration Reform


The Democrats host Dario Fernandez, coordinator for the Orange County Immigration Coalition and the Immigrants Rights Organizer with the ACLU of Southern California-Orange County Branch office, and Tony Ortuno,  a member of the Orange County Dream Team which supports and advocates for undocumented students of all nationalities and is the leader of its Queer Dreams committee which addresses the social and cultural struggles of LGBTQ undocumented immigrants.  (Note that "LGBTQ" stands for "lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning" and that Democrats are supportive of their issues.)

The meeting is at Clubhouse 3, Dining Room 2, with doors open at 6:30 p.m. for voter registration, membership, volunteer opportunities and socializing and program beginning at 7:00.  Meetings include Club business, Legislative Action, refreshments and a raffle.  Members attend free; guests are $2 at the door.

For the past four years, the Club has had a table at the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast and will again this year on Saturday, May 18, at Clubhouse 1 from 9:00 a.m. 'til noon.  Photo opportunities with the Club's "President Obama" (cardboard replica) are a popular feature and volunteers will also register voters and provide information on the Club and other Democratic organizations and events in Orange County.



April 10 Meeting Features Betty Yee

Betty Yee, State Board of Equalization, is the special guest at the Wednesday, April 10, meeting of the Democratic Club.  Doors open in Clubhouse 3, Dining Room 2, at 6:30 p.m.; program at 7:00.  Ms. Yee speaks on "Is California Turning a Corner?"  She will present an economic and State budget update, along with perspective on what's in store for voters in the 2014 Statewide election.  She is running for State Controller in 2014.

Meeting also includes Legislative Action, Raffle, Refreshments, Membership, Voter Registration, and Volunteer Opportunities.  Please bring nonperishable food items for South County Outreach.  For info, call Sue Dearing at 949 855-6965.

Our special guest is Mike Levin, Vice President of Legal and Regulatory Affairs of Flex Power Generation, Inc., an Orange County firm.  Mr. Levin will speak on President Obama's energy policies.

Democratic Club Has Two Meetings in January!


REGULAR MEETING - Members and guests are invited to attend the Wednesday, January 9, 2013 meeting of the Democratic Club in Clubhouse 3, Dining Room 2, doors open at 6:30 p.m., program at 7:00   It will feature the Installation of your 2013 Board of Directors and Special Guest Henry Vandermeir will administer the oath of office.  His topic will be "How the 2012 Election will Affect the State."  Meeting also includes a raffle, refreshments, Legislative Action, Club business and voter registration, membership and volunteer opportunities.   For more info, call Linda Nearing at 949 460-0640.

SPECIAL EVENT - Inauguration Watch/Celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr., Day - Monday, January 21, 2013, Clubhouse 6, doors open at 8:15 a.m.  Come join in the happy occasion of the Inauguration of our President Obama for his second term in office and also celebrate MLK, Jr. Day -- such a happy confluence of events!  RESERVATIONS REQUIRED - call Penny Cline at 714 381-6439 or e-mail her at pjclaguna@gmail.com.  Come join friends and guests and watch on the big screen and enjoy fresh fruit, bagels, coffee cake, coffee, tea and other goodies.  Suggested donation of $5 at the door.

Reservations required:  Call Florence Kleinfeld at 949 540-9720 to sign up to bring a dish from one of four categories:  appetizers,salads, main dishes, and desserts. 
All drinks furnished by the Club.  Admission $5 at the door.

Bring a backpack with school supplies for donation to South County Outreach's Back-to-School drive and your admission fee is waived!

Register to vote at this event and your admission fee is refunded!
  Picnic includes entertainment featuring The Village Midiots band
playing special patriotic songs for sing-along.  Games and surprises!

This is the 2012 Campaign Kick-Off event with volunteer opportunities for Get Out the Vote, voter registration, and membership.  All Villagers are invited, regardless of political persuasion.  Come have fun with the Democratic Club!
