Recreation Utilization Review
The recreation resources within Laguna Woods Village are an important aspect of the unique environment that defines the Community, providing enrichment for the current residents and attracting new residents. GRF proactively manages the Community’s recreation resources and commissioned a Recreational Needs Assessment by the RJM Design Group in order to determine the Community’s perception of the recreation facilities and programs in order to develop a prioritized list of recommended recreation needs.
In May 2008, the RJM Design Group published a “Laguna Woods Village Recreational Needs Assessment Report” for GRF which identified the following facility improvements needed in the near term:
| • Basketball – Indoor |
• Exercise/Fitness |
| • Lighting |
• Sound Systems |
| • Clubhouse 2 |
• Golf Clubhouse |
| • Picnic Tables |
• Walk/Jog/Run/Hike Trails |
After a thorough review of the Recreation Needs Assessment, GRF oversaw the development of a plan on how to integrate the recommendations put forward in the report into GRF programs. The following Recreation Utilization Review is critical in the planning process because looking at the utilization of existing recreation resources shows how well the existing recreation resources are accommodating the current demand, shows the potential of the existing recreation resources to accommodate additional demand, and shows how the participants in recreation programs are distributed amongst those resources.
