Annual Report Highlights Fantastic Year for Laguna Woods Village
Annual Report Highlights Fantastic Year for Laguna Woods Village As detailed in an annual report released this month on community-wide accomplishments, 2012 was a great year to live in Laguna Woods Village. “We’re pleased to share with our residents the tangible results of a combination of Board initiatives and innovative community management and oversight,” said Jerry Storage, General Manager of Laguna Woods Village. “We encourage everyone to up a copy of our annual report and see the great things that are happening in our community.” Among the highlights: TopRetirement.com readers voted Laguna Woods Village one of the top ten best places to retire in the United States. Among the other highlights from 2012: the Village played host to the Inaugural Annual Laguna Woods Village Anniversary Golf Tournament, The Golden Rain Foundation partnered with the Historical Society of Laguna Woods to host the Anniversary Golf Tournament on Sept 6. Golfers enjoyed many fun activities at sponsored events throughout the golf course, including a Bridgestone golf ball fitting, several raffles, hole-in-one opportunities to win a new car or golf cart, and lots of food and prizes. The event was a great success, with all proceeds benefitting the Historical Society of Laguna Woods and its 50th Anniversary planning efforts. Also at the golf course, the Village welcomed the addition of the 19 Restaurant and Lounge, offering delicious California cuisine at reasonable prices. The breakfast menu debuted in early 2013 to rave reviews, and the new lunch and dinner menus debuted shortly thereafter. 19 Restaurant and Lounge is the latest restaurant from the owners of The Vintage Steakhouse in San Juan Capistrano and Gemmell's in Dana Point. In addition to the new menu, improvements to the restaurant included expanded bar service to the lounge and fireplace area, along with the installation of a television for patrons to enjoy their favorite sports. Several existing Village amenities, such as the Village Library and Clubhouse 6, were renovated and modernized, and hundreds of residential buildings were painted, re-roofed, or otherwise upgraded. The park-like landscape was carefully maintained through cutting-edge, eco-friendly programs. In an example of sustainable environmental practices resulting in significant savings, tens of thousands of dollars in cost offsets and revenue were once again received from the Village’s composting operation. “The Boards and Village staff have made going green a priority in recent years,” said Storage “In 2012, for example, approximately 72 percent of the Village’s solid waste stream was recycled, resulting in significant cost savings.” Other highlights from the annual report include:
