The Housing Mutual’s encourage neighbors to work together to resolve any nuisance that may occur, including noise resulting from the installation of hard surface flooring. Developing a satisfactory solution among yourselves and the spirit of cooperation helps to make Laguna Woods Village one of the most successful multifamily housing communities in the country. The solution to noise resulting from hard surface flooring could be as simple as having the upstairs neighbor install area rugs and runners in strategic areas; and perhaps removing hard-soled shoes upon entry. As of January 1, 2010, United Mutual prohibits the installation of hard surface flooring on a building level above the habitable space of any other dwelling unit (2nd floor manors with another manor below); and Third Mutual has established an alteration standard for the installation of hard surface flooring. If you and your neighbor are unable to come to an agreeable solution, Complaint forms are available at the front desk of the Community Center lobby. Complaints are handled by Community Services; and you will be contacted accordingly. It is again suggested that neighbor to neighbor cooperation is the preferred alternative for resolving these situations.
