What kinds of chemicals are used on the lawns, shrubs and trees throughout the community? While the specific chemical used is directly related to the problem at hand, the kinds of chemicals used generally fall into several broad categories such as herbicides, insecticides, fungicides and rodenticides. All pesticides used are approved by State and Federal Environmental Protection Agencies, regulated by the Department of Pesticide Regulation, monitored by the California Department of Food and Agriculture (through the Orange County Ag Commissioner’s Office), and used in accordance with their label for the control of the specific target pest. In every case, when selecting a product, preferential consideration is given to the pesticides containing the lowest level of toxicity. |
