What can be done to prevent odor from a garbage disposal? Periodically put about a cup of ice in the disposer and some scouring powder and a little water. Let it sit a few minutes and then run cold water as you turn on the disposer. This will not only help clean out the food residues, but will also sharpen the cutting blades. By cutting up a lemon, orange or other citrus fruit into small pieces and grinding them up in the disposal, the unit will be cleaned and have a pleasant smell. Remember to run only cold water when running your disposer. |
