Guidelines for Dog Owners

Guidelines for Dog Owners
With close living quarters and vast common areas to be maintained, it is particularly important to control dogs in a manner acceptable to all.

We are indeed fortunate that the “neighborly” philosophy expressed in the words known as the four “C’s”– Cooperation, Courtesy, Consideration and Concern – create an atmosphere where residents thoughtfully care for their dogs.

The following rules and regulations were adopted as the uniform guide to dog control within the community by the following resolutions:

The Golden Rain Foundation of Laguna Woods Resolution No. 2171 – March 2, 1976;
United Laguna Woods Mutual Resolution No. 44 – February 24, 1976;

Third Laguna Hills Mutual Resolution No. 509 – February 27, 1976;

These rules are enforceable by P.C.M., Inc., as agent for the corporations, and because they conform to City of Laguna Woods ordinances, are civilly enforceable by The Laguna Beach Animal Shelter Officers.

1. No person shall keep, maintain or permit within any dwelling unit under his control, or within any other real property owned or managed by this corporation, any dog which by any sound or cry shall disturb the peace and comfort of the inhabitants of the neighborhood or interfere with any person in the reasonable and comfortable enjoyment of life or property.

2. No person owning or having charge of any dog shall permit the same to run at large within any real property owned or managed by this corporation, except as otherwise provided in these rules and regulations, unless such dog is restrained by a substantial leash not to exceed six (6) feet in length and is in the charge of a person competent to restrain such dog.

3. Any animal found running at large within any real property owned or managed by this corporation may be reported to The Laguna Beach Animal Shelter for such action as he may deem appropriate according to the law.

4. No person owning or having charge or any dog shall permit the same to enter or remain within any real property owned or managed by this corporation contrary to the provisions of any sign posted conspicuously thereon by the corporation; provided that appropriate exception, as in the case of guide dogs for blind persons, may be noted upon any such dog.

5.No person owning or having charge of any dog shall permit any feces therefrom to remain within any real property owned or managed by this corporation except in trash containers.

6. Whenever any animal, suspected of being vicious, is reported to this corporation, the officers and agents shall report facts and circumstances thereof to The Laguna Beach Animal Shelter for such action, as he may deem appropriate according to the law.
